First Basic Court in Belgrade
The First Basic Court in Belgrade is the largest
Basic Court in
the Republic of Serbia court network. Its headquarters are in Belgrade, which is legislated by the Law on headquarters and areas of courts and public prosecutions of the Republic of Serbia. It has been operating since January 1st 2010, which is legislated by the Law on Courts of the Republic of Serbia. Both laws were published in "Službeni glasnik Republike Srbije" No 116/2008, which came into force on 30.12.2008. and the application of which started on 01.01.2010. All of this implies to the specificity and importance of the First Basic Court in Belgrade, which covers ten Belgrade municipalities - Vračar, Voždovac, Zvezdara, Zemun, Novi Beograd, Palilula, Rakovica, Savski Venac, Stari grad and Čukarica, and as such, is the largest and most organized
Basic Court not only in the Balkans, but in Europe as well.
COURT POSITION IN THE COURT NETWORK

JURISDICTION OF THE FIRST BASIC COURT IN BELGRADE
Jurisdiction of the First Basic Court is regulated by a clause in article 22 of the Law on Courts ("Službeni Glasnik RS" No 116/2008 and 104/2009)
The First Basic Court in the first instance:
The Basic Court in the first instance adjudicates on criminal acts where the stipulated principal penalty is fine or imprisonment for a period of up to ten years, unless they're under the jurisdiction of another court and decides on requests for cease of security measures or legal consequences of conviction for criminal acts within its jurisdiction.
The Basic Court in the first instance adjudicates on civil law disputes that aren't under the jurisdiction of another court and conducts executive and contentious proceedings which aren't under the jurisdiction of another court.
The Basic Court in the first instance adjudicates on housing disputes; disputes regarding employment and cease of employment; on rights, obligations and responsibilities deriving from a working relationship; on the compensation an employee is entitled to based on the harm suffered at work or related to work; disputes regarding the fulfillment of housing needs based on work merits.
The Basic Court provides citizens with legal assistance, international legal assistance and conducts other affairs determined by law.
It may be stipulated by Law that in certain types of legal matters only certain basic courts, within the area of the same high court, may act.
