Turn over a new leaf - recycle
The First Basic Court in Belgrade has, in cooperation with Papir Servis FHB, Eko Star Pak and Umka cardboard factory, launched a paper recycling campaign "Turn over a new leaf - recycle".
The Telenor foundation has also supported the project by paying for 1.500 boxes intended for gathering paper to be recycled, as well as enabling the launching of the www.okrenimolist.rs web presentation. Environment preservation projects are part of the Telenor foundation strategy and represent the manner in which Telenor helps raise awareness regarding this relevant issue, outside of its area of conducting business.
A portion of the boxes has been placed inside the 11 buildings of the First Basic Court in Belgrade, which is the foundation to systematic solution of gathering and recycling old waste paper.
At the media conference, held at the First Basic Court in Belgrade, in the Court building in Savska st. 17a, the Acting President of the Court judge Tanja Šobat, having thanked everyone present, stated: "The First Basic Court in Belgrade recognized a low level of waste management as one of country's leading problems, due to bad business habits and insufficient care for the environment. The objective of our campaign is not a one-off activity. Instead, the intent is to awaken the public's consciousness regarding the importance of environment preservation and improvement, rational use of resources, reduction of harmful effects on the environment, as well as the necessity of realizing that waste is not garbage, but rather a resource which may be used to achieve significant savings, which in turn would lead to more lasting effects of the campaign."
Chief of Accounting, Ms Biljana Šupljeglav commented that the entire revenue resulting from paper recycling would not be used for commercial purposes, but the following way: 25% of income would be intended for the purchase of sporting equipment and requisites for Court employees in order to promote a healthy lifestyle, whereas the rest would be evenly distributed to suppoting humanitarian activities, on one hand, and raising public awareness of the importance of recycling through further promotion of the "Turn over a new leaf - recycle" campaign, on the other.
"This is merely another in an array of projects initiated by the First Basic Court, related to social responsibility and conservation. Namely, previously the Court successfully realized the project of electronic and electric waste recycling in cooperation with the Bis Recycling center, thus providing for computers for the pupils of the "Vladimir Bukelić" elementary school in Medveđa", explains Ivana Keranović, coordinator of the Public Relations and User Communication service.
The First Basic Public Prosecutor's Office, City Public Prosecutor's Office, as well as 10 municipal public prosecutor's offices have already joined the initiative. Other judicial bodies are expected to soon take part, as well.
